If you haven’t been to Patton Alley, seen the Cherry Bomb Burlesque or frequented a local vintage fashion show hosted by the babes of Gritty Luxe, then you don’t know what you are missing. The worst part is that ALL OF THIS and MORE happened the Saturday of May 13th, 2017 ALL TOGETHER! If you weren’t there, I feel kinda sad for you.
Before I go further, I want to make a shoutout – or rather write-out – to Laura Weis – for taking ALL the photos…of which are strategically placed throughout this article. She is a photographer, I am merely a girl with a camera…there is a difference. Thanks girl – you are the best!
This show was uh-mazing. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard (it was probably at Chris Ray’s Blue Room Comedy Club). The energy in Patton Alley was up and the good feels were contagious. And may I just say the hair and make-up, which was sponsored by Karma Salon, was on fleek. And Christy, was that you I saw in the front row? Celine Royal, fellow WeDamer and BFF, emceed the evening and started out looking sensuous and steamy in a red cocktail dress – you madam, had my attention.
What Kind of Fashion Show in Springfield Was This?
Obviously, this was NOT a kid-friendly event…but it was great for date-night!…unless you don’t want your partner gawking at all the lookers who graced us with their presence that evening. But, if you and your S/O can look at the beauties while both being firmly seated in one’s confidence without fear the other was falling in love at first glance (which probably happened that night – I’m gonna be honest) then it was the perfect night out.
As you may know, the wedding season officially hits the month of June. So what sort of show was this you ask (you probably didn’t ask that but I am going to answer you anyways)? It was a vintage fashion bridal show coupled with one of the hilarious spectacles from the Cherry Bomb Burlesque. Even Nigel was there – one of now two male counterparts in this awesome troupe – he is a boylesque dancer, and a really flippin’ good one too. Becca, Kaycie, and Celine cleverly planned burlesque segments between outfits, giving the models plenty of time to change from their reception dresses into their wedding gowns while keeping the whole audience on the edge of their seats. It was riveting.
Patton Alley Pub set up a runway in their back room, and the house was packed. I met friends old and new, I laughed, I had a beer, AND I got to sit down with one of the runway models before the show started. Her name? Madison Kennon…
Madison Kennon – Model, Fashionista, and Local Debutante
This charming 19-year-old has an affinity with avant garde-style fashion, and has worked with Dietra Magazine. Tall, donning tattoos, raven hair and big sultry eyes, this was her first time working with Becca and Kaycie from Gritty Luxe, but this was her 6th show in total. Seeing her inked up physique, I asked her, “If you had to put a tattoo on your forehead, what would it be?”
She laughed at the question, thought about it and then answered playfully, “The moon phases – it would be like I am always wearing a crown.” A crown you deserve, my fair lady. Keep on rocking it girl!
I la-la-loved the whole evening. The only thing wrong with the show was not knowing when the next one is. Oh Gritty Luxe, how you tease me so.
