There is nothing like a cocktail out on the town after a long week working, adulting, and firefighting. So you and your friends decide to go out on Friday night…the problem is, you can’t be hung over the next day because your kiddo has some friends coming over – the last thing you want is to have alcohol on your breath while you are managing a bunch of other people’s children…what do you do?
That’s where we come in! At WeDames, we consider ourselves ladies about town, daiquiri debutantes, and moms with mimosas… We love researching and writing all about Springfield, MO’s favorite libations which is why we came up with this little ditty. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “You’re welcome, Springfield!”
WeDames Cocktail Awards
Award for the cocktail with the most calories goes to…..
While there are some versions of a Long Island Ice Tea with only 276 calories, that count can shoot up to over 700 calories depending on what’s put in there.
Award for drinks which cause the worst hangovers are……
dark spirits and alcohol!
Congeners are often found in drinks with dark color. Brandy, red wine, bourbon, dark rum and whiskey are a few examples. A byproduct of fermentation, congeners can sometimes be impurities or could be added to help give a drink a certain flavor. Either way, they are known to increase symptoms associated with hangovers.
Award for the strongest cocktail goes to……
The Aunt Roberta!
While some experts disagree, this strong cocktail contains 100% alcohol. What’s in it? Gin, vodka, absinthe, brandy and blackberry liquor are mixed together in equal parts. This is one drink you won’t find in a bar in the U.S. as it is not allowed to be sold there. You CAN, however, purchase it and make this head-spinning libation in your own home or entertaining guests.
Award for tastiest cocktail for those on a diet goes to……
Mojitos (with half the simple syrup)!
If you are on a diet, try a mojito and ask the bartender to half the simple syrup. You’ll be sitting pretty at 140 calories.
Award for prettiest cocktail goes to…….
the Unicorn Mimosa!
While it certainly isn’t saving you any calories it sure is pretty to look at! This is all relative though – I happen to like glitter, pink, purple and other pastel colors which remind me of a time of innocence.
Award for most expensive cocktails goes to…….
The Ono Champagne Cocktail!
This particular cocktail is served in a jewel-encrusted glass with a gold necklace on the side. Served in The Encore Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, they use rare 1981 Charles Heidsieck champagne, a $90,000 cognac, fresh orange juice, apricot juice and rose nectar. This expensive concoction will set you back $10,000 a drink – but you get to keep the necklace!
While there are some more expensive cocktails out there, such as the $22,600 “A Diamond is Forever” drink, I felt that this particular mix was made expensive by the $16,000 diamond dripping from the rim of a martini glass.
Remember to drink responsibly Springfield, MO. Catch an uber or a taxi if you are going to be drinking, or at least have a designated driver so you keep yourself and others around you safe.
