Uber is in Springfield, Mo and I couldn’t be happier. For those of you who don’t know what Uber is, it’s a location-based app that makes hiring driver easy, fast and cheap…and the cars are lovely too (as well as the drivers). I honestly don’t have anything bad to say about this local transportation provider!
My Personal Account of Uber, and Why I Support Them
I have been a Uber user for many years until I moved back to Springfield. I lived in Kuala Lumpur for a decade (that’s in SE Asia by the way), and in a city that size with traffic jams that make L.A.’s roads look reasonable at rush hour, there were times where taking my own car was not a feasible option. After all, I had calls to make, emails to send and I could do all that from the passenger seat… but driving and doing these things at the same time wasn’t safe.
Unfortunately, I didn’t particularly trust the cabs out there – on more than one occasion I have been profiled by the cabbies who would turn off their meter (even though it’s against the law for them to do this) and tell me my destination would cost about five (5) times as much as the regular fare. Not to say all cab drivers in Kuala Lumpur are bad – there are some good ones! But there are also horror stories of people getting in the back seat to find out their door lock is broken and have a chloroform rag shoved in their face. I swear, I am not turning you off to KL or any city in Malaysia – I love it there! And one of the reasons I loved it was because of Uber: safe, dependable, quick and cheap. If Uber were a man, he would be mine!
When Did Uber Come to Springfield?
Thursday, November 17th, 2016 Uber graced Springfield with its presence…at noon to be exact. *squeak*
I am so happy – I have had a few nights in downtown Springfield where I intended not to pass my two-drink legal limit, and then did…for reasons. I ended up calling substitute driver on more than one occasion and loved the service – but the price made my wallet sad. The people were friendly and professional, and I love having them as an option for those late-night networking events gone wrong, but I have used Uber for so long I just can’t picture my life without them.
What’s the Price of Uber in Springfield, Mo?
I am super glad you asked! You didn’t, but you were probably thinking that question. The prices of booking an Uber X are as follows:
Base fare: $2
Booking fee: $1.55
Cost per min: $0.25
Cost per mile: $1.3
Minimum charge: $6.05
Cancellation fee: $5
Keep in mind, these fees reflect the date and time this article was published. Now, I did some playing around with a Uber calculator estimator I found here, and found out I actually could have saved money had I used Uber to take me downtown and back rather than taking a cab. If you would like an estimate to see how much it will cost you to get from point A to point B, check out the Uber calculator here.
One of the questions I’ve had is whether or not the prices change after midnight – to be honest I am not sure. In Kuala Lumpur the prices did vary after midnight, but they were not like the taxis there – taxi prices would almost double! AND, on more than one occasion they would try to take the LONG way home which ruffled my feathers.
Since Uber drivers are paid salary and receive a lot of perks, it doesn’t make sense for them to try to take you the LONG way – they don’t get anything extra out of the deal.
