Ladies, flowers, and wine, Oh MY! This is the essence I get every time I walk into RosAmung Thorns, located conveniently behind the Plaza Shopping Center. I had the pleasure of meeting Cathy and her lovely mother Theresa who is the owner of RosAmung Thorns, and proud mama of two!
We sat down in their creative room where Theresa hosts her floral and wine design classes. I opened my laptop to take notes, Theresa brought out the wine and our meeting turned into a festive one! She was celebrating her son who had made the navy, and I wasn’t going to turn down a glass of wine with two uh-mazing ladies! Cathy joined us and we got down to business.
My first impression of Theresa is that she is jovial and extremely generous. She has this light inside her that can brighten a whole room, she laughs easily, is very down-to-earth and approachable. I liked her immediately. Her daughter Cathy is equally approachable, grounded and worldly. She spent a year abroad in Thailand as an English teacher and anchorwoman (freakin’ awesome) and is getting ready to move back with her husband in 2019. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little jealous. I have a mad love affair with Thailand…but this isn’t about me – let’s get back on track!
The RosAmung Thorns Backstory
Established in May of 2013, RosAmung Thorns hasn’t always been at their current location. In fact, it was a home-based business for about a month before they moved into their first commercial space the week after Mother’s Day. After moving one more time, (into the same shop lot as Dancing Mule), they landed at their current floral residence: 2030 S. Stewart St., Springfield, MO. 65804.
Conveniently located and drenched with class, Theresa constructs copious amounts of custom creations for her clients out of her lovely flower shop. I happened to walk in on her creating a wine basket complete with glasses, crackers, cheeses, meats and 2 bottles of wine. It was beautiful – but, to my misfortune, not for sale. Just another reason to go back and visit!
Theresa had worked at another local flower shop for 21 years after parting ways, and she decided to start her own floral shop. The name RosAmung Thorns has a beautiful backstory:
Theresa had a bit of a rough childhood, of which the details I will leave out, and her grandfather used to call her a rose among thorns. She had already branded herself as RosAmung Thorns on social media, so choosing the name was easy-peasey.
RosAmung Thorns Services
Theresa and her amiable team specialize in gift baskets, floral arrangement, plants, succulents, cactus gardens, and even can host events in their creative space! She eventually wants to open the creative space as an artistic education center (with wine) where they feature all kinds of other creative arts along with her floral design classes and WINE design classes (yes please!).
Floral and Wine Design Classes?
Yep! Theresa teaches students of all ages how to design and create their own arrangements. And, did you know about the secret ladybug special they have going? Anytime you purchase an arrangement from RosAmung Thorns, they hide a “ladybug” in your purchase. If you take a picture of the ladybug and post it on social media with #rosaladybugsighting, your name is put in a design class where you can win a free class for you and 4 people!
This is a topic which is close to Theresa’s heart – anytime something big happens in her life, ladybugs flock to her. This is one way she gives back to the community – by giving away little ladybugs (plastic and stickers mind you – she doesn’t put real ladybugs in your arrangements), and design classes for friends!
We finished our interview, of which the whole time this creative jewel was constructing and designing home-made bows, and I left satisfied and a little bubbly. Will I be back? Yes. Will I have wine? Definitely. In fact, we are thinking about hosting a ladies’ wine night there in the future! Be sure to check our MeetUp Group to see when and where we will be on the town!!
And remember, if you need a florist, visit this quaint little shop. It will definitely be worth your while!
