Queen City Rock Camp showcases young musicians in its third year!
This all-girls summer camp builds self-confidence through music.
For the third year in a row, young women in the Ozarks will join forces to express themselves through the power of rock ‘n’ roll. The 2016 Queen City Rock Camp showcase will take place on August 5th at 6:30 pm, at the front yard of the Downtown Church at Walnut and Jefferson in Springfield. The show will be free, all-ages, and open to the public.
From August 1st through 5th, girls ages 9 to 18 will learn to play an instrument, form bands together, and write their own original songs in preparation for the showcase. Camp director Hannah Sheehan modeled QCRC after the Portland Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls.
“This experience shows girls how fulfilling it is to work together toward a creative goal,” said Sheehan. “The things they learn about collaboration will stay with them, whether or not they ever play an instrument again.”
What is Queen City Rock Camp?
Queen City Rock Camp is a week-long day camp for girls ages 9 to 18 in Springfield, Missouri. The mission of Queen City Rock Camp is to provide a safe and supportive environment where young women can work together to build self-confidence through music.
Queen City Rock Camp reaches out to girls who may not otherwise have an opportunity to take music lessons. Half of the campers attend camp on full scholarships and no musical experience Springfield musicians lend their instruments for the campers to play, and also volunteer to teach the girls how to play them.
