It’s here!! October 22nd is the day Itty Bitty City opens its doors to Springfield…sure, it is the same day as Dragonfest – the Renaissance festival hosted by Infinity Academy – but that doesn’t mean you have to do both on the same day (although you could because Dragonfest starts at 11:00am and Itty Bitty will be open at 9am). Technically, you could make a day of it with your kiddos.
That being said, what is Itty Bitty City all about and what do they offer?
Itty Bitty City Springfield, Mo
This awesome establishment, nestled within the Kickapoo Corners off South Campbell, is a dream for little tikes eight (8) and under. It is a mini-park for children to imagine, play, and learn in various settings. Some of which include a fire station, grocery store, café, a water play area, science studio and more. Arts, crafts and fun can be had for little ones and their parents. They even have a toddler play area for children ages two (2) and under.
If that isn’t enough, they host birthday parties, celebrations, workshops and other special events as well.
As a mom, we all know that it is important to tucker your children out before bedtime (especially if they are ‘littles’). Failure to do so often results in sleepless nights, tantrums, and energy-filled children who won’t sleep. As a single mom with a full-time career and tons of projects on the side, this absolutely doesn’t fly with me. I need my daughter to sleep at night so I can too. There have been days where there is simply not enough coffee.
Jana, What Are Their Party Packages Like?
Their party packages are comparable to the likes of Incredible Pizza and Sky Zone Trampoline park, ranging from $170 for 10 children to $375. I have heard a lot of people thumb their noses at prices like this. As a mom, I don’t think these prices are bad. In fact, I think they are VERY reasonable.
This is Out of My Budget, Right?
To answer that question, it depends on your financial situation AS WELL AS your scheduling budget. For me, no.
I recently held a birthday party for my daughter in September at Incredible Pizza. I had no issue paying for the children and the adults to eat, and my bill came out to roughly about $260. But THIS is what I got out of it:
- 10 all-you-can-eat buffets for the kiddies
- 2 free buffets for adults
- Each child gets a $10 game card, save for the birthday girl who got a $20 game card
- A party hostess (this means I could go and schmooze with the other adults and leave the cake-cutting, present opening and everything else to Incredible pizza – I could actually RELAX during the birthday party)
- I paid for the other 9 adults all-you-can-eat-buffet (this was my choice – I didn’t have to if I didn’t want to)
- 10 party packs for the kids
- Decorations and balloons for the party room
*It is also important to note that I was bumped up to the ULTIMATE birthday package while paying the Cool Kat package price.*
Sure, I understand that some moms do it all themselves and I used to do that for my little one…until last year. In 2015, my daughter’s father and I decided to keep it simple and have a pool party at my apartment complex, while providing light snacks and drinks.
Obviously, I had a bit of a communication breakdown with him and my daughter because they invited what felt like EVERYBODY IN MALAYSIA. We had almost 70 people at the party and we ended up having to pay for catering which was WELL in excess of $260. Not only that, but I did the decorating, the planning, I had to pay to use the gazebo area of the pool, AND I stuffed the party packs myself. All very time-consuming and pricey endeavors.
Needless to say, I was DONE after that. I paid the price in both time and with my wallet. I decided from that point on to use the K.I.S.S. method: keep it simple, silly….it’s actually supposed to be keep it simple, stupid but I don’t condone that sort of language in front my daughter – seeing as this is an article for moms and dads alike, we shall call it keep it simple, silly.
Anywho, the point is this: I spent $260 for ten (10) kids to eat pizza, cake and play in the arcade, nine (9) adults to eat, AND for my own peace-of-mind (which, to me, is priceless). That’s roughly about $13 per person. I am not complaining. But I have seemingly sidetracked myself again!
Get Back to Itty Bitty City Jana. Sheesh!
Woops! Went off tangent with Incredible Pizza…my bad. Itty Bitty City is cool because it is a fun place to go with your kiddos to spend some quality time…especially during those cold winter months which are right around the corner.
Arts, crafts, playdates, HUGE foam blocks your kiddos can make forts out of, the works. This place is especially cool because it helps the little ones better hone their fine motor skills, helps them engage in problem-solving, work on their social skills AND provides various environments and play areas to stimulate their imagination. I am a huge advocate for any establishment that promotes learning-through-play, and this one definitely does that.
