We all have personal style, but some have it more than others – especially when you are named Kandice Alexander and own 5Elements Esthetics and Makeup Studio. One of the first times I saw Kandice she was donning a long red summer dress which left everyone’s jaw on the floor, myself included. She was like Cassie from Friends – Ross and Monika’s hot cousin whose beauty and allure escaped no one…including Phoebe!
Kandice Alexander is a personal stylist who wows everyone when she walks in the room. With a background in theater (directing to be exact), her clientele includes those who grace our T.V. screens and radio stations every morning and evening on local channels. She specializes in esthetics (skin care, facials, all things beauty-related) and personal styling.
As a personal stylist, she works with people from around six months to a year and helps them with everything from makeup & hair to clothes shopping, exuding confidence and personal branding. She gets paid to be your best friend or the long-lost sister you never had and gives you a makeover from the inside out. And who doesn’t love a good makeover?
Get Glowing Bright Skin in Three Steps
One of the things I love about Kandice is her skin – it is always flawless. To be honest, I love it and am a little peanut-butter and jelly when I see her luminous skin. I asked her what her secret was, and confessed that if her method of skin care was more than three steps, I wouldn’t be bothered doing it every day. Lucky for me, she had a three-step formula for getting that glowing bright skin:
- Get a GOOD cleanser and use it twice daily (not one of the cheap brands made with cruddy ingredients, but a decent brand made with natural ingredients). She exclusively sells a skin line called Market Fresh which is all-natural and chemical free.
- After cleansing, apply toner (a quality toner). This serves to remove any excess dirt or grime, and also serves as an extra cleanser for those wearing makeup.
- Moisturize! Again, a quality moisturizer is important. You want to make sure your skin is hydrated and stay that way!
Another question I asked her because her consultations are free, was about crow’s feet (I tend to smile with my eyes) and how to get rid of them. She said there is one really good remedy for ridding yourself of crow’s feet and dark circles…but first, a headline (for SEO purposes).
One Home-Made Remedy for Crow’s Feet and Dark Circles Under Your Eyes
Tea bags. Calm down people – I was caught off guard too! Kandice says tea bags with a high amount of caffeine can help flush toxins out of your skin. All you have to do is soak le bag o’ tea in ice water and then put them on your eyes for 10 – 15 minutes once or twice a week. This is especially good during allergy season because it helps with the inflammation and swelling that often accompanies blossoming trees.
She revealed to me that the absolute WORST thing for collagen and elastin (the elements which create a picture-perfect face) is to have dry skin. Moisturization is key! It puts the lotion on the skin or else it gets the tea bags again…capeche?
Exuding Confidence From Your Toes to Your Clothes
Some of the most iconic people in the media have a personal stylist – someone who helps them pick out the right clothes for certain occasions, the right accessories AND how to speak and be confident, and Kandice is the go-to stylist in Springfield, Mo. You may think this isn’t a big deal, but it is – she has helped clients close more sales by simply having them change their clothes!
One story she told was about this gentleman who had a lawn care business here in Springfield, Mo and he dressed for his job – a lawn care specialist in jeans and t-shirts with the occasional cover all or two. After talking with him Kandice found out that he was approaching new clients in this way and, while he closed some business, his closing rate was awful. After giving him a couple of pointers on how to dress, his closing rate improved drastically. Why? Because he started looking like the business owner instead of the lawn care guy.
I remember my first day in Business school – I was young, twenty-two to be exact, and I dressed uber-casual. It wasn’t until I attended the classes that I realized how out-of-place I was. People were mostly in suits, save for the few in jeans who still sported a blazer. And there I was, jeans a T-shirt and a ponytail. Even the instructor noticed my out-of-place personal style, or lack of, and insisted that if I wanted people to take me seriously I needed to dress the part. One of the biggest roadblocks I had at the time was overcoming my ego. “But this is who I am!” I would profess stubbornly. I can hear Kandice in my head already saying, “Yes, but who do you WANT to be? Dress like that!”
Another awesome thing about Kandice is, in an initial consultation, she finds out your likes, dislikes, and preferences and then supports you in building your own unique style around “the essence of you.” She is very unlike my business school instructor who made me change my style on the spot – it was a bit of a shock to my system, but I lived, thankfully. Mrs. Alexander likes working with people over months as opposed to weeks. The reason being is you don’t go to the gym once and get the body of your dreams – finding your own unique style is the same thing. It takes time and understanding!
In summary, whether you are simply looking for a facial or looking to reinvent yourself within the next year, Kandice is your best bet when it comes to navigating the tricky world of fashion in Springfield, skin care, and personal branding.
