I am a strong believer that when I am in a good mood, have taken care of myself, and have met my own needs (whether that be meditating early in the morning, feeding myself when I am hungry or getting a pedicure), everyone around me benefits. Coincidentally, if I don’t take care of myself, I can turn into a grumpy downer – everyone around me suffers including those I love. This is where Kerri Ferris, manager of Grove Spa and I see eye to eye. Not only is there a big difference between being selfish and practicing self-love, but you OWE it to yourself and those around you to take time for you. Kerri herself is the embodiment of self-love and self-care.
First and foremost, Kerri is gorgeous on the inside and out. When I went to meet her for the second time, a handshake wouldn’t do – she is a hugger! This Oklahoma native has lived all over the United States pampering people from all walks of life. She lived in Denver for a while, and it was there she was introduced to the wonderful world of spas, where one can balance and rejuvenate their mind, body, and spirit. This was when she discovered her passion for taking care of people.
After living in the mile-high city for a few years, she left the pristine mountain community for the busy streets of Tribeca, a neighborhood in lower Manhattan, New York where she became a spa director of a prestigious establishment. For two years, she catered to high-profile clients, celebrities and even made house calls. When her husband decided to start a company in Springfield, Missouri a couple of years later, she supported his decision. It’s been a big change from the city which never sleeps, but she admits she loves the community here. Even spa competitors are supportive of one another!
The First Spa in Springfield – Grove Spa
Did you know Grove Spa will be 22 years old in May of this year? It was started by pharmacist Gary Grove who happened to love traveling and frequenting spas around the country. Such love, he had for self-care, he opened Grove Spa, and the rest they say is history.
One of the things I really liked about Grove Spa, aside from the ambiance, the atmosphere, and incredibly friendly staff, was their “no hard-sell” mentality. One of the things which make my eye twitch is purchasing a spa package with the intent of relaxing and rejuvenating my body and mind, and being chased out of a high-end establishment by pushy sales reps! There goes my whole experience!
Grove Spa is one place where they NEVER hard sell their clients. They provide an initial consultation, find out exactly what the client needs, and then meets these needs within the budget specified.
I asked Mrs. Ferris if there was only one service she was allowed to have for the rest of her life, what would it be?
“Massage! There are so many benefits whether it is relaxation or therapeutic. If you need neuromuscular work, trigger point therapy, aromatherapy, massage provides many advantages to people.”
Good point! So what if you were only allowed one makeup item to use for the rest of your life?
“Sunscreen. Not only does it protect the skin, but also fights radiation and damaging rays. It prevents premature aging and promotes overall wellness. Not only is skin the largest organ, but people often overlook taking care of their skin.”
Last, but not least, what is your favorite product here?
“The Lip peptide treatment! This is a physician-grade skin care line which only certain businesses can sell. It is composed of peptides and amino acids which hydrate, refresh and regenerate the cells in your lips. It also helps rid your lips of fine lines and wrinkles.”
Boasting two locations, many happy customers and a plethora of services and products, it’s no wonder Grove Spa is so successful. Even their employees love working there. Each month, they reward one of their staff with a treatment of their choice. Maybe I should work there….. All in all, their spaces are beautiful and relaxing in and of themselves. And Kerri is a breath of fresh air – I highly recommend checking out their spa services!
