Fashion isn’t my strong point. Whether it is accessorizing with jewelry or mixing up my closet in hopes of enhancing whatever style I might have, it isn’t my thing. This is why I like surrounding myself with fashion, styling and accessory experts. Namely Michele Rickman – entrepreneur, mom of three and fashion/styling master.
Her two businesses go hand-in-hand. One is called 4d and the other is Park Lane Jewelry. 4d is an image consultancy business which supports people in coordinating their wardrobe, enhancing their style and presenting themselves appropriately in their vocation where Park Lane Jewelry is all about accessorizing, and doing so within a budget (seriously, the jewelry is fun-omenal)!
In essence, both of her businesses are about empowering people, and this is exactly how I feel every time I have met with her. Whether we talked about clothes for specific body types, dealing with flirty men in the workplace, or the challenges we’ve undergone with business and family, I’ve always left our girl-dates feeling better about myself…I just love people like that!
Michele Rickman – Mom, Entrepreneur, Super-Woman
Each area of life brings its own challenges, so I asked Michele what her biggest challenge was in working with people as a stylist. She admitted people tend to be apprehensive and fearful of styling.
“What I run into is people not understanding why styling and dressing appropriately is necessary. On top of that, they are often frustrated about finding clothing that matches them and their style. The perception is that some people can style and some can’t…many people believe they are in the ‘I can’t style category,’ and this simply isn’t true.”
This led me to my next question – why is styling necessary? She smiled and sat up a little straighter – one could tell how passionate she is about this topic. She went on to explain we are a visual society, people make their first perception of you within 7 to 15 seconds …unless it is Sarah, Michele’s quiet, reserved and fun daughter who I had the pleasure of meeting in one of our rendezvous at Traveler’s Coffee. She takes her time forming an opinion, while the rest of us silently judge others in under half a minute… But I digress! In short, you want how you look to be an expression of your personality.
The thing I liked most about our chit-chat was when she said styling ISN’T about changing you or your personality. Styling is about expressing you in a way which empowers you. In other words, Michele doesn’t create a new image for you to fit into, nor does she cover up who you are, she helps you find your signature style by enhancing the style you have.
Some of her words of wisdom include:
“Never be afraid to sparkle a little brighter.”
“It’s ok to stand out and be noticed.”
I concur, Michele! I concur. *Sparkling intensifies*
Fashion Trends and Finding The Right Jewelry for Your Face Shape
This was SO much fun to talk about!! Did you know there are specific necklaces and earrings people should wear based on their face shape? I find this next section to be incredibly informative!!
EARRING AND NECKLACE TRENDS: Try large, long earrings which dangle because this is the ongoing fashion trend. Embellishments, bling, and Earthy-tribal stones are also in this season!
CLOTHING: Blouses and shirts with peek-a-boo shoulders, off the shoulder, boat-neck cuts, decorative cutouts in the sleeves, ruffles, and flounces are all trending right now. In fact, stripes and boho are coming into the limelight also. Big earrings with said blouses and ruffled shirts will give balance and accentuate your features.
