Fast friends Kaycie Surrell and Becca Kennedy are two women who might just have got it all figured out. My partner and I recently had the opportunity to sit down with them in a quaint little coffee shop in downtown Springfield, Mo. It all began simply enough. We each got some coffee, less my partner who stole sips off mine, and began talking. It was easy to see within seconds that these two high energy women are not only spear-heading fashion in Springfield, but they were in it to win when it came to our ever-growing fashion community. It was almost difficult to keep up with Kaycie and Becca, but in the best way possible. They finished each other’s sentences and seem as though they were made to be partners. Fortunately, they met three short years ago, at an “awkward BBQ”, becoming the best of friends and diving head first into their ideas until the fabulous concept of Gritty Luxe was born in January of 2015.
Let us back up a bit before we visit what Gritty Luxe is all about, though.
Fashionistas & Fashion in Springfield, Mo
Kaycie and Becca may have met only three years ago, but they have steadily worked together on other projects the entire time, thus discovering their natural ability to do so seamlessly and effortlessly, playing off of each other’s energy in every endeavor they took on. They did photo shoots for a style and fashion magazine, helping to produce five fantastic issues over the course of two years, each with their own individual mark. This prompted them to begin thinking about the future and what it held for the two of them, together.
They decided to head out on their own, utilizing their love for fashion and style, officially launching their vision of Gritty Luxe on April 15th of 2015. When asked why they chose to launch on April 15th, in unison they called out “tax day” giggling together and bumping elbows, “we knew we wouldn’t forget our launch date if we did it on that day”, they added. As I said before, they complete each other’s sentences, so speaking in unison was no surprise for my partner and me, though we still couldn’t help but giggle right alongside them. We sipped on more of our coffee’s and decided to dig in and find out every possible thing we could about their brain-child, Gritty Luxe.
What Gritty Luxe is all about in Springfield, Mo.
Gritty Luxe is all about the empowerment of women through fashion. It is about revealing the beauty in the female sex no matter the shape, size, color or origin. The gist: women are beautiful beings with the ability to do anything they put their minds to, and that is what Gritty Luxe wants to capture in their work with the women of our community. Kaycie and Becca are all about making women feel good about themselves and are overjoyed to participate in any way in those realizations. Whether it be with photoshoots, their spotlight articles, or the fashion forms they appreciate in everyone they speak with, they are here to show our town the fantastic side of the fashion and style life.
Ms. Becca Kennedy built the Gritty Luxe site from scratch while Kaycie provided the social media knowledge and wine. They spent many a late night perfecting their beautiful website, and as they say, “brainstorming is so much better with wine”. They have a similar style, so navigating their ideas came effortlessly to them. Covering topics such as present day vintage style, hair and make-up, and runway, among others, this site has WeDames convinced these ladies do have it all figured out. Their Babes section had my partner and me in awe of their ability to capture the very essence and purity of each of the women they photographed. They are raw, out of the box, brilliant fashionista’s and WeDames is in love.
What’s next for Gritty Luxe?
Since these two ladies are questing for fashion and beauty, they are paving avenues of opportunities for the fashion oriented in Springfield, Mo. Since both come from an advertising background, they are looking forward to offering ad services on their website. They have no intention of stopping there, however. In addition, they will offer personalized styling- I think I’ll send them to my partners’ house- personalized styling, photoshoot package for engagements and boudoir, event planning for small occasions, and a service called Make-up to the Max which involves them bringing different styles of make-up to you and teaching you how to contour your face, which colors work with your skin tone, and how to get the perfect look. Even better, these ladies want to keep Gritty Luxe local and in full support of Springfield businesses such as Envy, Yodo, and The Review Shop, among many others.
With all of these amazing services we believe their quest for fashion and beauty is of the upmost noble of causes, not to mention their support of our local economy and its potential.
