I know, the last few articles have been centered around the fall theme, and in keeping with the autumn motif we have compiled a few fall makeup trends for 2016, taken from the fashion runways and makeup artists alike.
Personally, I wasn’t a fan of following make-up trends…that is until earlier this year a client of mine gave me this gorgeous Chanel lipstick which I adore. It is a darker shade called rouge coco shine, 96 Aura. I put it away for the summer and opted for bright reds, pinks and nudes, but now that the air has a chill in it and my tan faded away, I am happy to bring my Chanel back out. It is such a fun color!
Out with the Bright and in with the Dark
Dark eyeliner, shadowy eyes, and deep lips are in this season. In the summer, we were showing off bolder and brighter colors such as pinks and blues, matted T-zones and mascara colored anything but black. For fall, we are doing something a little different.
Fall Eye Makeup Trends
Black eyeliner with a bit of smudge is absolutely in this year. Think Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean…minus the rum and greasy, dreadlock hair. While your eye color itself can be anything from nudes to earthy tones to deeper colors like plums and purples, be sure to have your eyeliner on hand! Even peachy eye tones originally thought to be more of a spring or summertime color, is making a come-back in Autumn.
Glitter is another thing making its’ debut on the runways – you could do a smoky eye with a gold glitter highlight which will make your eyes pop. In fact, some are using glitter as a way of highlighting the brow bone – different, unique and fun at the same time! In the summer, makeup artists were using glitter under the eyes, but now it would seem glitter is migrating back North again to the lids and even the brow.
Last, but not least, think big, bold lashes – and don’t forget the bottom lashes as well.
Fall Lip Makeup Trends
As a rule of thumb I personally keep to, if you are going heavy on the eyes, lay off the lips. If you are going heavy on the lips, then use lighter colors on the eyes (except for the eyeliner – go heavy on that this fall).
The look for lips this season borders on the goth side, with shadowy hues of purples and deep reds, you can’t go wrong. Depending on your skin tone, a dark mauve in matte or a shiny eggplant or mulberry lipstick will bode nicely for this season. That is the best part about lips this time of year – you can go matte or shiny!
Whatever you do, think red – not the bright, happy sunshiny reds – the sultry colors are definitely making a statement this fall (think vampire).
In summary, even if you feel your skin tone doesn’t go well with the deeper lip colors this season, keep in mind that there is a deep red or purple for every skin tone, just like there is a specific peach eye color for every complexion. I say make a day of it and hit up your local Sephora or Avon shop in Springfield.
